Hall Pass is a dance film created and directed by Ella Gross that explores joy as a contagion—how a single act of connection can ripple through an entire community. Set at Baker High School in 1976, the film follows two high school seniors whose newfound love transforms the atmosphere around them, inspiring classmates to embrace spontaneity, vulnerability, and celebration in the midst of everyday life. Through movement, nostalgia, and visual storytelling, Hall Pass captures the infectious nature of human connection and the freedom that comes from choosing joy.
My Role
As my directorial debut, Hall Pass represents the culmination of my creative vision from concept to completion. I developed the story, choreographed the movement, directed the cast and crew, and oversaw every stage of production, from pre-production and fundraising to filming and post-production. More than a dance film, this project marks the beginning of my voice as a filmmaker. It combines my background in dance with my passion for cinematic storytelling to create emotionally driven work that lingers long after the final frame.
